It’s not just the students who have come back to school. Santana is a school bus driver. She takes the children, morning and evening, to their school. Brut followed her for a day.

Do you have all your cards?“For each child who gets on, it’s the same ritual: check that they have their transport card with them. Santana, hairdresser by profession, is also a school bus driver. From Monday to Friday, it transports students from home to college. A job with serious responsibilities. “If I compare to my basic profession which is hairdressing, if I got up and was late, well, it was off for the first appointment. But there, if we are late, we put a lot of people in trouble (…). We transport lives, we do not transport goods”.

“Per month, if I am active, we will be in the 800 €”, details Santana. Her activity as a hairdresser at home can reach 600 €. “We have to have a second job alongside that of bus driver”explains the young woman.

Moreover, this sector is experiencing recruitment difficulties. For the driver, this is partly due to the particular schedules. “It’s still broken schedules, so we can’t stray too far from home. We do the tour, at 9am it’s over and then we have to leave in the middle of the afternoon.” Despite everything, the students remain grateful for his work: “Sometimes, I have the right to my little gift. When summer arrives, I am entitled to a small bouquet of daisies that they picked up”.
