The police custody of the policeman suspected of having killed a man driving a van reported stolen on Saturday March 26 on the edge of Sevran and Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), was extended Thursday, announces the Bobigny prosecutor’s office in a press release. “At this stage of the investigation carried out by the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), he is placed in custody on the charge of ‘willful violence resulting in death without intention to give it’, aggravated by his quality of a person holding public authority and by the use of a weapon”explains the Bobigny prosecution.
The 32-year-old policeman was hospitalized in shock until Wednesday. He was then taken into custody. The floor must “a statement to the press” Friday afternoon “to take stock of this case”. On Tuesday, the family of the driver killed filed a complaint.
While the anti-crime brigade tried to control the vehicle in Aulnay-sous-Bois on Saturday around 12:30 p.m., the man fled. That’s when “a policeman came up to the driver’s window and, in circumstances that have yet to be determined, fired his weapon – a single shot – as the van sped off again”, traced the Bobigny prosecutor. The victim’s autopsy, which took place on March 29, confirmed that the shooting was the cause of death, the Bobigny prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.
Since the death of this 33-year-old man, several municipalities in Seine-Saint-Denis have experienced nights of violence, such as in Sevran, Aulnay-sous-Bois and Tremblay-en-France. Since the start of this violence, eleven people, including two minors, have been brought before a judge, three have been imprisoned awaiting trial and several police custody are still in progress, according to the Bobigny prosecution.
