Violence in the school environment and child labor are of concern to the CSQ, which underlined these two aspects during its press conference at the start of the year.
The Centrale des unions du Québec, the majority of whose members work in the field of education, maintains that the phenomenon of violence in schools is indeed more present and that acts of violence are manifested even in preschool and are unfortunately trivialized.
The president of the trade union center, Éric Gingras, pleads for the whole of society, and not just the school, to send a message of “zero tolerance” with regard to violence.
With regard to child labour, the union leader invited the Minister of Labour, Jean Boulet, to submit his bill to regulate it as promised and to “not give in” to pressure from employers.
He recalled that because of the scarcity of labour, employers hire young people aged 12 or 13. However, work can be detrimental to academic success, depending on the number of hours devoted to it, recalled the president of the CSQ.
