The CSN fears a possible tax cut on the backs of students

A few hours before the start of the electoral campaign, the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN) is concerned that possible tax cuts will be made on the backs of young people.

In particular, the CSN is asking the parties to commit to reinvesting massively in education to ensure predictable funding, in addition to implementing attraction and retraction measures for professionals in the sector.

The CSN also wishes to lower the educator-student ratios from kindergarten to university to meet the needs of young people with special needs.

“If education were perceived as a fundamental value of Quebec society, we would not still be talking about awkward working conditions, staff shortages, dilapidated schools and poorly ventilated classrooms in schools, cegeps and universities. Education will never be an expense: it is an investment for the future,” CSN President Caroline Senneville said in a press release.

“Let us stop promising tax cuts, on the backs of young people, and that we finance the network at its fair value, for the well-being of those who study and work there, before it definitely harms Quebec society,” she added.
