School bullying continues to kill, and is taking an increasingly devastating toll, reinforced by the emergence of social networks… This Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Elisabeth Borne and Gabriel Attal jointly announced numerous shock measures to fight against this scourge which once again pushed a teenager to suicide in early September.
Nicolas, 15, a victim of school bullying for several months, killed himself in Poissy, even though his parents had implored the rectorate to help him. Missives remained in vain, to which the rectorate had seen fit to respond with a call to order and threats of legal proceedings against Nicolas’ family.
On Twitter, singer Jeanne Mas reacted with great emotion to this sad news. Pleased that the suffering of children and adolescents harassed at school, middle school and high school is finally a subject of national importance, the 80s star revealed that her son Christopher, now 31, had to deal with bullying when he was at school : ”Delighted that we are finally raising the ordeal of young people harassed, humiliated and terrorized in schools also by disturbed teachers. Many shock measures
The new shock measures announced this Wednesday by the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Education came as a surprise. Elisabeth Borne and Gabriel Attal announced the establishment of a number (3018) and an application to report and denounce cases of school harassment. Harassing students may now have their cell phones confiscated, and may be banned from social networks, initially for six months, then for one year in the event of a repeat offense.
Empathy courses will be offered to students from a very young age, like the courses offered in Denmark, which allow students to be “happier”. Anti-harassment brigades will be deployed in academies, and will be authorized to go to establishments which report situations of harassment or cyber-harassment. Finally, anonymized self-assessment grids will be distributed to all students from elementary to middle school, in order to detect cases of school harassment.
