The Crown | Costumes and sets sold for thousands of pounds

(London) From Diana’s engagement ring to the royal carriage, fans of the famous Netflix series The Crown acquired costumes, accessories and sets for thousands of pounds on Wednesday at an auction organized in London by Bonhams.

The 450 lots put up for sale, which ranged from simple sketches of dresses to imposing life-size sets, were used for the multi-award winning series on the British royal family, one of the greatest successes of the American platform but often criticized for its arrangements with history.

Among the most imposing pieces, the reproduction of the coronation throne was purchased for 25,6000 pounds, the imposing carriage decorated with gold, “in perfect working order”, was sold for 56,300 pounds, and the green jaguar of Princess Diana went up to 70,000 pounds.

The copy of the facade of 10 Downing Street aroused less enthusiasm and sold for just over 10,000 pounds, although Bonhams had estimated it at between 20,000 and 30,000 pounds.

In terms of costumes, the replica of Queen Elizabeth II’s ermine and red satin coronation outfit, worn by actress Claire Foy, sold for nearly 20,000 pounds, and the Prince of Wales’s investiture outfit, with the heavy purple coat worn by actor Josh O’Connor, was acquired for 14,000 pounds.

Reproductions of Princess Diana’s clothes and jewelry were successful: her engagement ring with a fake sapphire went for 7,700 pounds and the “revenge dress”, worn just after her husband Charles confessed his affair with Camilla during a an interview, sold for 12,800 pounds.

Other accessories and decor can also be purchased online until Thursday.

Proceeds from the physical auction will go to students at the National Film and Television School, in collaboration with the British production house of The Crown Left Bank Pictures.

The sixth and final season of the series, which aired between November and December 2023, remained in the top 10 of Netflix’s most viewed English-language programs in the world for eight weeks.
