Emmanuel Macron persists and signs. During an address to the parliamentarians of the majority invited to the Elysée, on the evening of Tuesday March 21, the President of the Republic estimated that “the crowd” who manifests has “no legitimacy in the face of the people who express themselves through their elected representatives”. “The riot does not prevail over the representatives of the people”he added, while new demonstrations enamelled with tensions were underway at the same time in Paris and elsewhere in France. “In a democracy, it is not because a text passes by very few votes that it is illegitimate”continued the Head of State.

He also called on the Prime Minister to “reorganizing the work of government”while “a period opens before us where we must appease, calm, return to the field and listen to anger”. And to add: “Having ministerial offices that work much more with the parliamentarians of the majority.”

He justified the use of 49.3 to have his pension reform adopted without a vote, despite the protests of opponents of the text. “Using the Constitution to pass a reform is always a good thing if we want to be respectful of our institutions”, he justified. While the government survived a first motion of no confidence, by only nine votes on Monday, he assured that this vote demonstrated that there was no “no alternative majority”. “And it is not because it passes to very few things that it is illegitimate, on the contrary”he insisted.

“Which hand we haven’t grabbed? I ask”said Emmanuel Macron again to defend the consultation carried out by the executive.
