The Court of Auditors recommends toughening the rules for sick leave, Thursday May 30. They notably proposed increasing to seven the number of waiting days during which employees will not be paid to save money and fight against fraud.
A radical measure to curb the rise in health spending. The Court of Auditors recommends no longer compensating short sick leave of less than eight days. The French people met on Thursday May 30 seem to be opposed to it. “We were already three days out, it’s already complicated”, reacts a man. For the Court of Auditors, numerous abuses exist regarding small work stoppages.
Between 2017 and 2022, the bill for sick leave would have increased by more than 50%. According to an expert, to stop it, another solution would be to apply the three-day waiting period for private sector employees to civil servants. Another option would be to reduce the maximum duration of compensation from 3 to 2 years in the event of a long illness. These measures could save up to 1 billion euros.
