Four weeks before the US presidential election, while Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are neck and neck in the polls, Denise Campbell Bauer, US Ambassador to France, explained that “elections are always uncertain. People vote, that’s democracy”. She highlights her role in France: “At the embassy, we are focused on ensuring that Americans who live abroad can vote.”
If Kamala Harris is elected, it would make her the first woman to lead the United States. To the question “Do you think the United States is ready to elect a woman as president?”the ambassador replied in the affirmative. “You know, in 2016, it was a woman (Hillary Clinton) who won the popular vote. But because of the way our system works, that woman did not win the election.” And to add: “The country is ready”.
