The Russian military continues to carry out massive strikes against the country’s energy infrastructure on Saturday, October 22. With the strategy of electric chaos, Moscow is forcing Ukrainians into new restrictions when winter is already here.
At nightfall, in the streets of kyiv (Ukraine), the sources of light are becoming increasingly rare, Saturday, October 22. Some neighborhoods are plunged into almost total darkness. A building has had no electricity for two days. “We turned off the refrigerator to save electricity”, says a resident. They are obliged to adapt to energy saving measures. kyiv City Hall has introduced rotating blackouts of four hours. The temperature is already approaching zero degrees.
During the winter, the thermometer can drop to -20°C. In the past two weeks, 30% of the energy infrastructure has been destroyed by Russian military strikes. Ukraine therefore finds itself in need of electricity, not to mention the very damaged distribution network. Even the headquarters of energy companies have become targets for the Russian military. “The majority of employees prefer teleworking (…) because we think it’s safer for them to work from home”, explains Diana Kladova, director of communication of Dtek.
