The violence of gangs and criminal gangs threatens Haiti more and more every day. Rodly Saintiné, Haitian journalist who took refuge in France, spoke about the situation on Saturday March 9 at franceinfo. “In just two months, there have been 1,193 deaths. It’s a terrible situation that began in 2018, the country has gotten stuck in a spiral of violence and it has a tendency to get worse”he warns. “The situation prevents the population from obtaining food and water”continues the RFI correspondent.
Rodly Saintiné was himself a victim of the violence of criminal gangs, since he left the country in 2023 after threats. “It was very complicated. I was a journalist on gang violence in the largest slum in Haiti, Cité Soleil [près de Port-au-Prince, la capitale]. I had to flee because bandits came to look for me at home, I fled at the last minute.”says the journalist.
