Germany has decided to tighten its controls on all its borders for six months to combat illegal immigration. In recent weeks, several attacks by irregular migrants have left several people dead and traumatized the country.

These are images that we have not seen since the Covid-19 period: the reestablishment of controls at the border between Germany and France, such as in Kehl, a neighboring city of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), where the police have been carrying out random checks since the night of Sunday 15 to Monday 16 September. A decision by the German government for the next six months. These checks do not seem to have disrupted the usual traffic between the two countries.

For several months, Germany had already re-established its controls in the East and South. The measure has now been extended to all its neighbors, from France to Denmark. Chancellor Olaf Scholz took such a decision following the breakthrough of the far-right party, the AfD, in two of the country’s states. A few days earlier, an attack left three dead and eight injured in Solingen, an attack claimed by the Islamic State group.
