A European summit starts on Thursday December 14 in Brussels. Two files are on the table: the opening of negotiations for accession to the European Union and financial aid of 50 billion euros to the country. But Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban threatens to veto.
Unlocking 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine and discussing the country’s membership in the European Union: these are the two subjects at the heart of the debates at the European summit which begins Thursday December 14 in Brussels (Belgium). But barely started, the summit faces a first setback. Viktor Orban, Hungarian Prime Minister and affirmed pro-Putin, threatens to veto. A situation which exasperates Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “He has no reason to block Ukraine’s accession to the European Union”did he declare.
Ukraine will have to be patient
Upon her arrival on Thursday morning, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, made a point of recalling the importance of consensus. After the refusal of the American Congress to grant it 100 billion euros in aid last week, Ukraine will have to be patient for the upcoming negotiations between the Twenty-Seven.
