“Idiot”, “loser”, “you’re shit”… The Council of State has decided to maintain the record fine of 3.5 million euros imposed by Arcom on C8, following the insults of the host Cyril Hanouna to the LFI deputy Louis Boyard on the set of the show “Touche pas à mon poste” (TPMP) in November 2022, according to a decision rendered on Wednesday July 10 and of which AFP has become aware.

In May, the public rapporteur of the Council of State recommended maintaining this fine imposed in the context of the sequence with Louis Boyard. “Contrary to what is claimed” by the Canal+ group channel, it does not “there is little doubt that the kind adjectives addressed” live by the presenter of TPMP to the elected in November 2022 “constitute insults”the rapporteur had justified. A sanction that was contested by the C8 channel belonging to the group of conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré, denouncing in particular a “error of judgment”.

The institution also maintained the fine of 500,000 euros imposed by the audiovisual regulator after another TPMP sequence, during which a guest had notably mentioned the consumption of an alleged drug based on children’s blood by certain personalities, “adrenochrome”.

Presenter-producer Cyril Hanouna, 49, is a regular at slip-ups and his shows have earned C8 a barrage of warnings from Arcom, for a total of 7.5 million euros in fines. C8 is applying for the renewal of its digital terrestrial television (DTT) frequency as part of a procedure currently being conducted by Arcom and its fate, like that of CNews, another channel in the Canal+ group, is the focus of attention.
