The government has decided to accelerate the mobilization against the Omicron variant, which already concerns “more than one in three contamination” in Paris. Tuesday, December 21, the government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal, announced that an extraordinary Council of Ministers would be held on Monday, December 27 to adopt more quickly the vaccination pass, wanted by the executive to increase the number of doses injected in France against Covid-19 and its new variant.
The government had initially planned to validate the draft law on the vaccination pass on January 5 for a “final adoption before the end of January”. This advanced presentation “will allow Parliament to be in a position to examine this text from next week, between Christmas and New Year’s Day”, added Gabriel Attal. The government aims to adopt the text “from the first fortnight of January”.
Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Friday that a bill would be presented “early January” to transform the health pass into a vaccination pass, a negative test is no longer sufficient to enter places subject to the pass (restaurants, museums, cinema, etc.). The introduction of a health pass raised heated debates in Parliament, which extended this pass in November until July 31, 2022.
