The coroner identifies the second victim of the landslide in Rivière-Éternité

The Quebec coroner’s office confirms the identity of the woman killed in a landslide that occurred last weekend in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.

Pascale Racine, 44, is one of the two people who died last Saturday in Rivière-Éternité.

Earlier in the week, authorities identified the other victim, 48-year-old Pascal Héon, who lost his life following heavy rains that caused landslides and flooding.

Police divers found the two bodies on Tuesday evening.

A provincial engineer told a briefing that the victims were trying to clear debris from a small landslide from a road when a larger landslide occurred. A man who was with them managed to cling to a tree and was rescued.

More than 50 residents of the municipality were forced from their homes after the storm dumped 130 millimeters of rain in the space of two hours.

In addition, Route 170, which crosses Rivière-Éternité and had been buried in several places, has been completely reopened, announced the Ministry of Transport on Friday. All vehicles, including heavy goods vehicles, can drive there.

However, traffic will take place there alternately, during the day, from July 10 to 28, to allow the completion of the permanent work that will be required to restore this sector.
