The COP circus

It’s hard to escape the COP 28 media hype. In all this circus, we always wonder who is telling the truth and what is the point of such a ballet of conferences and plane trips. Many felt insulted by the comments made by the president of COP28 concerning the link between abandoning fossil fuels and achieving our climate objectives. However, if we want exchanges to be useful and a real solution to emerge to the climate crisis, freedom of expression and science are essential elements. Stifling dissent in opinions, whether personal or in the form of scientific articles, gets us nowhere. We should always ask for more from science, even if it does not necessarily provide the desired support for our opinions. For my part, what insults me is not what is happening on the other side of the planet or the words of a manager of an oil company, but rather the so-called energy transition in Quebec with these billions of dollars coming out of our pockets. Where are the scientific studies that support these choices of our governments? What debate have we had collectively in this regard? […] We focus on the urgency to act […] and yet, the urgency is to think carefully before acting!
