The controversy surrounding Gérard Depardieu continues to rebound. Friday, December 29, a “counter-tribunal” opposing the actor was signed by more than 600 artists. On Saturday, some signatories from the first forum, who defended him, backpedaled.
Already targeted by three complaints for rape and sexual assault, Gérard Depardieu is at the heart of a battle of petitions. On the one hand, around fifty artists published an article to defend it, on the other, a counter-article, signed on Friday December 29 by more than 600 artists. On December 20, Emmanuel Macron publicly defended the actor, denouncing “a manhunt”. If the president’s comments shocked part of the public, others chose to drive the point home.
Charles Berling backpedal
Five days later, more than 50 artists, including Carole Bouquet, Charles Berling and Nathalie Baye, signed an article in Le Figaro, protesting. The controversy grew, until the response on Thursday evening, on a blog hosted by Mediapart. Among the 600 signatures, the singers Angèle and Louane, mbut also the actresses Corinne Masiero and Judith Chemla. On Saturday, several artists who signed the first platform backpedaled, like Charles Berling.
