Historian specializing in the United States, François Durpaire was indicted for rape on Thursday 1er last September, according to information from Le Parisien this Sunday, September 4. As a reminder: the facts date from 2011. His ex-girlfriend, a woman now 39 years old, would have had a “brief relationship” with the BFMTV consultant. “It was then that she came to seek explanations that she says that she was raped”, explains the newspaper.
A financial transaction
In order to keep this affair secret, François Durpaire and this young woman would have agreed to an agreement in 2020: “According to our information, they would then have agreed on a financial transaction… American style! The agreed sum: 60,000 euros with 5,000 euros paid immediately.” But ultimately, despite this arrangement, the young woman would still have filed a complaint. “The Paris prosecutor’s office is opening an investigation entrusted to the 2nd judicial police district”. Summoned on Tuesday August 30, François Durpaire was placed in police custody. “In front of the investigators, he spoke but wished to remain silent during his first appearance interrogation before the investigating magistrates, who decided to place him under judicial supervision, without the bail requested by the prosecution”, details Le Parisien.
“He had heard of accusations for a few months”
The columns of the newspaper also give the floor to Me Dorothée Bisaccia-Bernstein, the consultant’s lawyer: “It is a sign that justice also has confidence in him and in his guarantees of representation and that the judges will instruct against and at discharge. It had been a few months since he had heard of charges, this opening of judicial information reassured him, it allows him to know the charges which are brought against him. This will allow the manifestation of the truth. Mr. Durpaire will deliver his explanations during the examination on the merits which will take place in a few weeks”. Pending the investigation and justice, François Durpaire is currently presumed innocent of the charges against him until proven otherwise by the competent authorities.
