the Constitutional Council officially proclaims the victory of Emmanuel Macron

The President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, officially proclaimed Emmanuel Macron President of the Republic on Wednesday. The Head of State won the absolute majority of the vote, 58.55%, on Sunday in the second round of the presidential election. “The Constitutional Council has carried out census and control operations”said Laurent Fabius, noting of “irregularities” observed in 48 polling stations, leading the Elders to cancel 20,594 votes, or 0.06% of the votes cast. “Overall, the rules of the electoral process were respected,” estimated the President of the Council.

Out of a total of 48,752,339 registered voters, 35,096,478 voted, representing an abstention rate of 28.01%, the second most important under the Fifth Republic in a second round of presidential elections. The Constitutional Council counted 2,333,904 blank ballots, reducing the number of votes cast to 32,057,325. Of these, 18,768,639 went to Emmanuel Macron (58.55%), against 13,288,686 for Marine Le Pen (41.45%). The mandate of the newly elected “will start from May 14, 2022 at 0:00”, specified the President of the Constitutional Council.
