The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) is beginning a new chapter with the announcement of appointments to important positions within its administration, after its fall marked by internal dissension.
“The last election made it possible to identify the strong elements, and today, we take these people and put them in key positions”, rejoiced the head of training, Éric Duhaime, in an interview at the To have to. The party held a lake-to-shoulder, that is to say a strategic planning meeting behind closed doors, in Drummondville, during the weekend. It was at the end of this that the appointment of Olivier Dumais, former defeated candidate in Beauce-Nord and mayor of Saint-Lambert-De-Lauzon, was confirmed as president of the organization commission.
The duty revealed Wednesday that Louise Soucy took over as executive director of the party. Donald Gagnon and Dr. Karim Elayoubi respectively take over the titles of party president and president of the political commission.
These announcements come after several stormy months for the PCQ: the party’s national office underwent several changes after the disappointing results of the polls last fall, and sources deplored an “internal war” within the party, in an article published by Radio-Canada.
“Of course it stirred a little,” concedes Mr. Duhaime. “It’s normal that after an election, there are people who are disappointed,” he adds. But we did post mortems at the regional and national levels and we analyzed that. […] Now is the time to turn the page and look to the future. »
Mr. Duhaime adds that “everything was done in haste, our party grew quickly” and that we must now “learn from these mistakes and put the right people in the right places”.
Five targeted themes
Over the weekend, the party has also selected five themes to focus on leading up to its national convention. These themes are democratic reform, natural resources, inflation, health and Quebec’s autonomy within Canada.
“By the end of the week, Dr. Elayoubi and I will present our solutions for health emergencies in Quebec,” promises Mr. Duhaime. He also wishes to mobilize the four parties present in the National Assembly with regard to the theme of immigration. “I asked Mr. Legault that we get together, the five parties, and that we talk about immigration with one voice,” he says, referring to his meeting with the Prime Minister last week. . He wants the parties to unite to demand more powers in this area from Ottawa.
The vote of confidence in Éric Duhaime must take place during the party congress this fall.
