The conflict in Ukraine directly affects French craftsmen: shortages of materials are multiplying and prices are rising. This is the case for aluminum, which drives up the price of windows. Report in the Val de Marne.

On a construction site in Fontenay-sous-Bois (Val-de-Marne), everything is increasing: the price of the bag of coating, that of fiberglass rolls or even tiling. Windows are no exception. Before the recent spike in the cost of aluminum they were charged 9,000 euros to a contractor and went up again. The company that sells him the windows transforms 500 m of aluminum bars every month. The boss is worried about the supply.

His supplier now sells the aluminum bars at a higher price. “On the aluminum part, we buy it twice as much as 18 months ago, and between last year and this year, for the same bar, you will take a 20% increase”, explains Quentin Rodde, Marketing Director of Sepalumic. The bar accounts for a large portion of the cost of a window. The only alternative to the aluminum window is the PVC one, which costs twice as much. Its price, however, has also started to rise.
