In the afternoon of Tuesday 1er March, a debate without a vote took place in the National Assembly on France’s choices in the Ukrainian conflict. The intervention of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, known for his ambiguous positions on Russia, was particularly awaited.

Tuesday 1er march to the National Assembly, the Ukrainian ambassador was greeted with applause and standing deputies from all parties. A debate without a vote, bearing on the choices of France in the Ukrainian conflict, took place there. In his speech, Prime Minister Jean Castex expressed the solidarity of the nation, and denounced the Russian invasion. All the benches applauded him after his speech: a strong image of national solidarity.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon had the opportunity to clarify his position vis-à-vis the Kremlin. “Whatever the causes of the invasion of Ukraine. Nothing can excuse it, nor put it into perspective”, said the leader of the Insoumis. He nevertheless said he was opposed to the delivery of arms to Ukraine. A hypocrisy denounced by the right, which also targets Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour.
