Jean-Christophe Repon, president of the Confederation of Crafts and Small Building Companies (CAPEB) regrets Saturday October 15 on franceinfo to be “taken hostage” by the strike in the refineries of TotalEnergies. The building sites are slowing down due to the shortage of fuel: “If the crisis were to continue, we will have difficulty keeping our employees in business”, he warns. He asks the government to set up partial unemployment, as during the Covid-19, “without remainder to be borne by the company”.

franceinfo: Are the construction sites still active?

Jean-Christophe Repon : We are not yet in cancellation, that is why we are asking the government to be very vigilant. If the crisis were to continue, we will have difficulty keeping our employees working. We ask for a partial activity at least. We are asking the crisis committees, the territorial prefects to sit around the table, territory by territory, so that we can take stock in Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, the territories most affected in order to be able to continue to work. If we cannot work, it is necessary at least, if we want companies to get through this crisis, that they can have a partial activity without being charged to the company as what was proposed during the Covid period.

Do you want priority access at gas stations?

This remains a request from us. The Territory of Belfort was successful on the jerrycans. They are prohibited. For us, working on construction sites also means having portable power tools that consume gasoline and diesel. It is necessary at least at least that we can, as on the whole territory, be able to use jerrycans, when we are a craftsman, in order to be able to continue to maintain employment and work.

Do you understand the mobilization of employees at TotalEnergies?

We understand because we are part of the social partners. The fact that oil companies have made superprofits also necessitates the distribution of value. It is up to employers and employee unions to find solutions for their sector, as we do in every sector. We are taken hostage because of a lack of negotiations between the bosses of the petrochemical sector and the trade unions. It’s not the right time to block France, when there have been superprofits. The share of responsibility is shared, but Total must surely make a move.
