An end-of-life bill has been announced. This very important text is the subject of debate. President Emmanuel Macron gave all the details of the conditions required to request it.
A new law should allow people to choose their end of life when they are seriously ill. A development that more than 70% of French people expected. “It’s very good, it’s a good thing. We must relieve people who are at the end of their lives”, judges a Parisian interviewed. Another passerby is relieved. “I lost friends who suffered a lot. (…) It’s above all about keeping your dignity. It’s very important”she believes.
A lethal product administered
This assistance in dying can only take place under strict conditions. Only patients suffering from an incurable disease will be able to benefit from it. Patients must be capable of discernment and have a vital prognosis in the short or medium term. For their part, caregivers at the Institut Curie do not welcome this upcoming development. The patient will be administered a lethal product. The request for end-of-life assistance must be validated by a medical team.
