Since October 7, Israel has strengthened its military occupation in the West Bank and launched several waves of arrests. The latter, as well as the conditions of detention imposed on prisoners, are increasingly being singled out.

In the family vineyard, Rokaya and her father remember a painful past. Arrested by the Israeli army last October, she was detained for 35 days without any charges being brought against her. “They searched us more than necessary, under the pretext that they were looking for a cell phone. […] They beat some of the girls, and subjected others to sexual harassment.”she remembers.

“A policy of revenge”

For his part, Naji Abbas, project manager at Physicians for Human Rights, receives numerous testimonies of sexual assaults which “does not only concern women”. “The policy of IPS, the Israeli prisoner service since October, is a policy of revenge”, he notes. Israel categorically denies these accusations, but there is no shortage of witnesses. Since October, Israel has intensified its occupation of the West Bank, and more particularly Hebron. According to Palestinian sources, more than 1,500 people were arrested there, including 38 women.
