The Covid-19 epidemic of the past two years has brought many questions about health policies back to the forefront of the news. However, has the presidential campaign invested this ground? Teams from France Télévisions went to meet caregivers in a hospital in Bordeaux (Gironde).
According to several polls, this is the second concern of the French: health. At heart from Bordeaux University Hospital (Gironde), where several thousand patients are followed each year, four caregivers took the time to express themselves on the subject because they find that this is not sufficiently taken into account in the presidential campaign. “We always harp on security, immigration, all that, it tires me (…) I would like us to talk about people’s health, for me it’s central”said one of them.
The public hospital is sick. The pandemic of VSvid-19 pointed out these shortcomings, which appeared long before the virus. “We have beds closed due to vacancies, in addition to absenteeism in connection with the health crisis”laments a nurse. The exhaustion of nursing staff is also a real problem. So how? “We think like a business in the hospital and unfortunately I think it’s not compatible. We don’t sell something, we provide care”recalls a caregiver. Everyone hopes that the hospital will find its place in the 2022 presidential election.
