The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) has opened a preliminary investigation for “embezzlement of public funds” and “concealment” of this offense against Fabien Roussel, learned franceinfo Friday March 11 from the PNF, confirming information from the Agence France press (AFP). The candidate of the French Communist Party (PCF) in the presidential election is suspected of having held a fictitious job, as Mediapart revealed in February.

According to Médiapart, Fabien Roussel benefited from a fictitious job as a parliamentary assistant between 2009 and 2014 with the communist deputy Jean-Jacques Candelier. The PCF candidate assured on Twitter that he had the “evidence” of his “fieldwork” in the north. However, the investigation unit of Radio France contacted union officials in the sector where the candidate says he worked: they claim not to remember his presence with the deputy.
