The public sector common front will hold a first day of strike on November 6.
CIUSSS and CISSS have started to receive strike notices for November 6, one of them confirmed on Wednesday.
The common front did not want to deny or confirm the information for the moment.
The strike mandate adopted by 95% of the members of the common front provides for “sequences” of strike, namely strike days, isolated or grouped, before coming to the indefinite strike.
The common front is made up of the CSQ, the CSN, the APTS and the FTQ. It represents 420,000 members in health, social services and education.
New offer planned for Sunday
Prime Minister François Legault made a surprise visit to union members from the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ) who were demonstrating near the National Assembly on Wednesday morning.
During the discussions, which lasted several minutes, Mr. Legault recalled that Quebec will submit a new offer to state employees next Sunday. The President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, made this known Tuesday in a message on X, formerly called Twitter.
She says she is “more determined than ever to settle by the end of the year” with union members in the public and parapublic sectors.
Negotiations: More determined than ever to settle by the end of the year, I will make a 4th government filing on October 29.
At the same time, I will announce our decision as to whether or not to extend the bonuses. #polqc— Sonia LeBel (@slebel19) October 24, 2023
The minister will at the same time announce what will happen to the bonuses paid to thousands of state employees. Some of these bonuses were due to end on March 31 and were extended until September 30, then October 15.
Mr. Legault reiterated his desire to give larger salary increases “in shifts that are more difficult to fill”, particularly at night, on weekends and in remote regions.
“We can’t say: ‘I’m giving everyone a 21% raise and on top of that, I’m giving night bonuses.’ We must find a balance according to the government’s ability to pay,” he said.
A union representative reminded him that the deputies had voted for salary increases of 30%. The government also proposed increases of 21% in five years to Sûreté du Québec police officers.
Let us remember that the common front has already adopted a strike mandate, and that its members have adopted it in a proportion of 95%.
