On June 29, 2022, the comic strip Arsène Lupine against Sherlock Holmes is released. The first opus of the rivalry between the two legends is signed Jérôme Félix and Alain Janolle.
Created by Conan Doylethe character of sherlock holmes makes people envious in France. This is how Pierre Lafitte, a major press publisher, asked Maurice LeBlanc to imagine an equivalent French character. Arsène Lupin was born in 1905.
Both authors have never met but their characters did so under the pen of Maurice Leblanc in 1906, in the short story “Sherlock Holmes is too late”. A meeting that was not to Conan Doyle’s taste and Maurice Leblanc had to use the pseudonym of Herlock Sholmès to continue to make the English hero appear in his novels.
This version of duel between the two heroes literary respects Maurice Leblanc’s novel with a modernity of the process of history which makes it pleasant to read. A comic to own in his cartoon library!
