We have taken note of the open letter which rallied hundreds of family doctors, specialists and medical residents to urge both the doctors’ unions (FMOQ and FMSQ) as well as the Collège québécois des médecins de famille and the Collège des médecins du Québec to take a position on the issues of ceasefire, humanitarian aid, blockades of medical supplies, medicines and healthcare equipment, and the release of hostages in the Middle East.
In all the armed conflicts currently raging across the globe, the College of Physicians of Quebec takes the side of the injured, oppressed, hungry and thirsty people, as well as the healthcare personnel who work to help them throughout the world.
As a professional order with a medical vocation, we of course have the health, safety, well-being and protection of the public at heart. Wherever they practice, doctors must be able to help people in need, without being the target of heavy fire, bombing or looting of equipment. They serve people from all walks of life. In the service of life, health and human dignity too.
Since the College of Physicians of Quebec is the professional order of all doctors, regardless of their gender, origin or religion, we add our voice to that of all caregivers who denounce these humanitarian disasters.
