A beaver dam would have broken down last night in Rawdon, in Lanaudière, causing an impressive collapse of the road on Chemin du Lac-Morgan
“We really didn’t expect it. Everything was normal on this road, ”says Shaun Carroll, who lives some 500 meters from the damage.
According to the mayor of the municipality, Raymond Rougeau, three private culverts were first destroyed in quick succession by the excess water from the beaver dam.
“Then all that water went down to the road and with the amount of water that arrived and the pressure, the path was undermined,” he explains.
It is too early to determine the causes that would have led to the breaking of the beaver dam.
The municipality has set up temporary bypasses. Road reconstruction work should begin early this week and be completed by next Friday, said the mayor.
