What would we be without the coffee machine and the vending machine next to it? 91% of workers take at least one food break during their working day. This is what emerges from an Opinionway study for the Innocent brand. There are coffee breaks – practiced at least once a day by 72% of employees surveyed, but also snack breaks – 52% indulge in them. But the survey went further and reveals that 23% of workers take meditation or relaxation breaks, 19% sports breaks and even 17% sleep breaks at work. A little moment of nap stolen from the working day.

With big differences depending on the generations and the type of company because the older you get, the less you need to take a break. Those under 35 are 64% snacking during the day, while those over 50 are only 42%. A difference of 22 points in front of the distributor’s chocolate bar. More virtuous, the meditation break is practiced by 32% of young people, and only by 17% of the oldest. Even the siesta knows its generation gap: seniors are not tempted by a little dozing. They are only 15% to turn a blind eye (against 24% of young people). Another notable difference is the size of the company. The larger it is, the more frequent the coffee break.

We allow ourselves these breaks during the day “just for fun”. But when we peel the results of this study, we realize that the bosses should be pleased that their employees pick up a moment: 29% of employees say that they need these moments of relaxation to be more productive. And 15% say it allows them to be more creative. Without them, 76% of employees say they would be less efficient at their work.

But pay attention to the line because it is the number one concern of these employees who nibble. A third of them also treat themselves to sweets such as chocolate bars, candies or cakes. 63% fear gaining weight if they take too many food breaks during their working day. Perhaps a call to companies responsible for filling distributors with more “diet” products.
