A 1.5 kilo coat emits almost as much CO² as a car traveling over 450 km. It is part of one of the most polluting industries on the planet, textiles. A production that consumes large quantities of charcoal, fibers that are poorly recycled, very long and numerous transport routes … In short, the coat, a consumer product, is not virtuous for the planet.

The status of clothing, which has now fallen into mass consumption, does not help. To increase profit, French brands exported, subcontracted production. An established order slowly called into question, in particular because of the working conditions of the workers, but also because of the enormous degree of pollution of the textile industry as a whole.

In this episode of “C’est notre empreinte”, Étienne Monin sets out to meet new players, keen to produce coats that respect the environment, in France. A fight against “fast fashion”. But the tricolor sector has a price, and the short circuit risks becoming a luxury. The first response is to adopt new consumer habits.
