It’s a beacon of hope. The French National Olympic and Sports Council (CNOSF) gives a favorable opinion on keeping the Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 2, the Sports Department of Radio France learned on Monday July 25 from a source close to the football club. This is an advisory opinion. Now that it has been returned, the Bordeaux file must be referred to the Executive Committee of the French Football Federation (FFF). It will be up to him to decide urgently before the resumption of Ligue 2, this Saturday, July 30.
This decision in no way guarantees that the club, demoted to National 1 by the appeal committee of the French Football Federation (FFF), will be drafted into the second division. The FFF Executive Committee will make its decision. If they are reinstated in Ligue 2, the Girondins will only have three days to prepare for the resumption of the championship, against Valenciennes on Saturday. They would then evolve in an L2 in which they were relegated sportingly last May.
Several Girondin leaders presented the club’s file to the CNOSF on Friday July 22. They presented the conciliation agreements reached with American creditors King Street and Fortress, which resulted in a 75% reduction in the club’s debt. This is only 13.5 million euros according to them.
The leaders also revealed the sequestration of 24 million euros (10 in capital increase, 14 in guarantee of player sales). This last objective has already been almost achieved, since an offer of 13 million euros for the young striker Sékou Mara from Southampton has been accepted.
