The chances of reversing the decision on appeal from the DNCG, the financial policeman of football, seem very low, but the Girondins de Bordeaux club refuses to submit to the decision taken on Tuesday afternoon. The DNCG confirmed the administrative relegation of the club to National 1, the former third division, due to its financial difficulties.
In a press release published on Tuesday evening the management of the Girondins de Bordeaux the club expresses its incomprehension at this decision. “The club and its shareholder have indeed presented a project considered by all professionals to be solid and which responds point by point to the expectations expressed by the commission in the first instance” he indicates.
“Through this collective effort, FC Girondins de Bordeaux thus has the financial means to participate in the Ligue 2 championship next season, with the highest budget of this championship, and to pursue its objective of a rapid rise in Ligue 1” continues the club. “It demonstrates Gérard Lopez’s full and complete commitment to saving the club.”
An “unfair”, “unacceptable and incomprehensible” decision
According to Gerard Lopez, “This unjust decision is unacceptable and incomprehensible”. The owner of the Girondins continues: “I say it very clearly this evening to the supporters, to the people of Bordeaux, and to all those who have navy and white blood: I will fight until the end and that is why we have decided to appeal. against this iniquitous decision.”
The club would consider turning to administrative justice, in summary proceedings. But will only be able to do so after having exhausted all the remedies of sports justice. The Girondins will therefore first have to seize the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) before seizing an administrative judge.
At the end of a catastrophic sporting season, the Bordeaux club was relegated to Ligue 2. Less than a month later, on June 14, the financial policeman of football relegated it again, this time administratively, to National 1.
