A sugar factory of the Tereos group will close in Escaudoeuvres, in the North. The 123 employees and politicians do not understand this decision.

In Escaudoeuvres (North), the announcement of the closure of the sugar factory gave way to amazement and anger, Wednesday March 8. Employees gather and fail to express their resentment. The last sugar refinery in the North was to celebrate its 150 years of activity. But Tereos, the world’s fourth largest sugar group, has decided otherwise. He pointed to the fact that the factory was no longer running enough, due to the drop in the volume of beets.

Let the management explain to us, objectively, the reasons for this choice. All the arguments that are put forward today (…) are fallacious“, says Nicolas Siegler, president of the agglomeration of Cambrai. The plant employs 123 employees, who are now immersed in uncertainty, despite promises of reclassification in other French sites of the group. Tereos also announced the closure of a distillery in the Marne, where 26 employees work.
