The city of Cannes announced in a press release on Tuesday April 23 that it will experiment with video surveillance driven by artificial intelligence, reports France Bleu Azur. The Town Hall explains that video surveillance cameras already installed around the Palais des Festivals will be connected to algorithms and will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze behavior. Operators of the municipal Urban Protection Center (CPU) will thus be able to remotely monitor attitudes or events. “suspicious or at risk, defined by law”explains the city of Cannes.

In total, 17 cameras located around the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès will be used by CPU agents. They will make it possible to detect abandoned packages, the presence or use of weapons, failure to respect the direction of traffic, crossing or presence in a sensitive or prohibited area, a person on the ground, a crowd movement, a too high a density of people or even the start of fires.

The 77th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival will be held from May 14 to 25. In total, the city of Cannes has 884 cameras installed throughout the town.
