The Israeli army’s offensive in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, is worsening the humanitarian crisis and the famine affecting the population.

A makeshift soup and some bread. A meager meal for children and their parents who fled the bombings in Gaza. “The little ones ask for food all night. All night, they say ‘mommy, grandmother, we are hungry'”, deplores a mother. Since the closure of the Rafah crossing, humanitarian aid has no longer arrived in the camp. “We are sure there will be famine in Rafah”assures a man.

More than 110,000 people have already fled the city of Rafah

Faced with the urgency of the situation, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for a ceasefire. “A massive ground attack in Rafah will lead to a colossal humanitarian catastrophe and put an end to our efforts to support the populations”, did he declare. For fear of a large-scale Israeli assault, more than 110,000 people have already fled the city of Rafah, according to the UN.
