The mayor of Paris has indeed decided to postpone the ban on transit car traffic in the center of the capital until 2024. This should in principle come into force this year and reduce car traffic by 50%. Of course, nothing to do with the Presidential. The municipality says it wants to “take the time” for a public inquiry. In this limited traffic zone, renamed “peaceful zone”, it is planned to limit traffic, by reserving circulation to certain categories of vehicles. However, in 2024 the ban will not concern local residents, shopkeepers, people with reduced mobility, employees or people “going to the theater or to visit friends”, nor emergency vehicles, buses, bicycles, taxis and hybrid bikes. or car-sharing vehicles. Even motorcycles and scooters will be accepted, provided they have “something to do in the area” to be able to circulate there. In short, it will not change much a priori.
Good news for collector cars. They will not be targeted by the EPZs…
Paris, Reims, Rouen, Nice have already guaranteed that classic cars can continue to drive in their low emission zones, which will gradually exclude the most polluting cars and motorcycles. Orders are also planned in Strasbourg, Toulouse, Lyon and for Greater Paris. And a consultation is under way in Saint-Étienne and Grenoble. This is indicated by the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles, the FFVE. It must be said that vintage cars, which are over 30 years old, are not used on a daily basis. Even if they pollute more, they go out on average 14 times a year and cover 950 kilometres.
A replica of the Land Rover Defender will be produced in France
And more precisely in the former Smart factory in Hambach, Lorraine. The site was bought by Ineos, a British petrochemical group. He created the Ineos Automotive brand and will therefore offer the Grenadier this summer. It’s an old-school 4×4, inspired by the Land Rover Defender. 15,000 customers around the world have already reserved a model, despite its price of 60,000 euros. The brand hopes to produce 30,000 cars a year by 2024. In the meantime, it will continue to produce electric Smarts for another two years. Remember in this regard that Smart belongs in part to the Chinese group Geely and that production is now done in the middle empire.
And then, still about 4×4, the plug-in Jeep Grand Cherokee arrives in Europe
Its name is the Grand Cherokee 4xe. The plug-in hybrid powertrain offers reduced fuel consumption and even zero-emissions driving, while maintaining Jeep’s legendary off-road capabilities. The first Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid delivers a combined power of 380 hp for a torque of 637 Nm. And it offers 50 km of all-electric range. It is possible to pre-book this proposed model now for the tidy sum of 92,500 euros.
