The municipal project “Embellish your neighborhood” aims to green the capital by grouping interventions and works in a tight period. Each development project gives rise to consultation with the inhabitants, who can submit their ideas (on idee.paris.fr).
In 2022, the municipality announces that 16 neighborhoods will be redeveloped, for a total of 250 sites. In addition, nine new districts, including “Nord Louis Blanc” (10th), “Belleville-Saint Maur” (10th), and “Montmartre” (18th) will enter the consultation phase.
Maps of the first 16 neighborhoods available
The City of Paris provides on its website maps of the 16 districts that are being redeveloped or whose work will begin soon. Cycle paths, pedestrian zones, tree planting… There are various solutions for greening the city, and making it “a more pleasant, more accessible and more breathable place”.
In all, 1,200 to 1,300 more trees will be planted,
explains Jacques Baudrier, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of site coordination. About fifty streets will be closed to traffic and redeveloped, in addition to the 160 “streets to schools“.
“Adapt the city to climate change”
According to the chosen one, it is important “to adapt the city to climate change“.
More trees means more shade. This makes it possible to make the cities much cooler, during heat waves, which unfortunately will increase.
The first development is a square at the intersection of rue de Reuilly and Faubourg Saint-Antoine in the 11th arrondissement. The next consultation will take place in zoom with the inhabitants of the Belleville-Saint Maur district, on February 17. The ultimate goal is to cover the 85 neighborhoods defined in Paris.
