In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the town of Mont-Saint-Martin could no longer find an insurer. The town suffered extensive damage during the riots that followed Nahel’s death at the end of June 2023.

After several months of anxiety, Mont-Saint-Martin (Meurthe-et-Moselle), a town of 10,000 inhabitants, will be able to maintain its public services. “We could have actually stopped having this building which is the gym”explains the mayor, relieved. If the infrastructure remains open, it is because the city has been insured again for two weeks. Its old contract ended following the riots last year during which nine buildings were ransacked. The mayor of the city led the operations to find a new insurer. A contract essential to the proper functioning of the daily infrastructure.

During the ghost town operation, all city services were closed: schools, canteens, daycare centers, sports halls and civil registry offices. The municipality risked finding itself without functional protection (insurance for elected officials and staff), nor insurance for its vehicles, its assets and its buildings. This new insurance provides relief to residents.
