To put an end to canine droppings, the town of Bergerac, in the Dordogne, has decided to set up a high fine. In the event of a recurrence, it could reach 750 euros for canine owners.

750 euros. This is the amount of the fine, in the event of a repeat offence, if you forget to pick up your dog’s poop in Bergerac (Dordogne). The city wants to mark the blow against incivility. “Of course it is a significant amount”recognizes Jonathan Prioleaud, the mayor of the city. “But it is above all a dissuasive amount”he continues.

A majority of Bergerac residents are in favor of this measure. “Unfortunately, it has to come to this for people to react”, recognizes a resident. Another thinks that “it is very good” but can no longer find bags in the tanks available in the park in which she walks. She continues: “I am willing to pick up, provided there is material.” This excuse will not be accepted, the municipal decree obliges dog owners to have bags with them, under penalty of another fine of 38 euros.
