the city is appealing for donations to renovate Fort Saint-Pierre

The appeal for donations to renovate Fort Saint-Pierre in Noirmoutier-en-l’Ile has been launched. The city organizes it with the Heritage Foundation to give a breath of fresh air to this former military building, which became the reception structure of a hotel at the beginning of the 20th century, then for the town’s sailing club. The objective is to collect 100,000 euros out of the 1.5 million needed. “The building is over a century old and is experiencing a logical aging“, says Christophe Daussy, municipal councilor responsible for maritime, port and nautical activities in the town.

An infrastructure to be brought up to standard

This rehabilitation will be carried out in several stages. “We’ll start by demolishing a 40-year-old wooden building. ” indicates Christophe Daussy. “The framework and large vaulted rooms on the ground floor must be completely redone“. Not to mention the upgrading to health standards and access to people with reduced mobility, which are essential today.

Work should begin before the end of the year.
