The staging of the Cirque du Soleil tribute show to Rock and Beautiful Ears (RBO), The Circuswas entrusted to Jean-Guy Legault, behind the first five shows of this series presented at the Cogeco outdoor Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières.
Jean-Guy Legault will team up with creative director Émilie Grenon-Émiroglou and musician, arranger and director Alex McMahon, who has accompanied numerous Quebec artists such as Daniel Bélanger and Ariane Moffatt.
The tribute show to the humorous group, which made the heyday of the 1980s and 1990s, is entitled The Circus. This title, which risks making French language purists cringe, would, according to the creators, be a reference to the use of the English-speaking article in the names of RBO sketches, such as The Tounes Or The Show.
The Circus, which will be on the bill at the Cogeco Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières from July 17 (until August 17) wishes to create a “cabaret club” in the image of RBO. The creators promise to draw from the group’s musical repertoire, but also from their “exploded, silly and deliciously sloppy world”.
A first “rearranged” extract of the song I want to pogne of RBO was revealed Thursday, during the presentation of the creative team and the title of the show.
Extract I want to pogne – Arranged by Alex McMahon
This new acrobatic show combining “virtuosity and self-deprecation”, is the eighth show in the Cirque à Trois-Rivières tribute series, which had devoted the first six opuses to Quebec groups or singers (Beau Dommage, Robert Charlebois, Luc Plamondon, Les Colocs, Les Cowboys fringants, Les divas), before paying tribute last year to hockey legend Guy Lafleur.
