In France, nearly 6 million people have suffered sexual abuse as a child. On 12/13 went to collect their testimonies. What they went through is sometimes very difficult to hear.
At a public meeting of the Independent Commission on Incest and sexual violence do to children (Civise), Florence Elie, 47, testifies. Throughout her childhood, she suffered repeated rapes from her father. “He dragged me by my hair into the bedroom. He put the gun to my head and said to me: ‘If you talk or scream, I’ll blow your head off and then I’ll blow your mother’s head off’. He damaged me so much that I had gynecological care morning and evening by a nurse, who was silent, she said nothing“, she testifies.
Some victims have not had the possibility or the strength to come to the public meetings, so they call in specialized centres. Some 11,000 people have already testified: the majority denounces old violence, but one call out of ten is a call for help. On the morning of Thursday March 31, the Ciivise published 20 urgent recommendations, such as psychological support or better care by the justice system.
