The leader of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), François Legault, is asking for a second term in order to make further progress on five fronts: “education, health, economy, environment and identity”.
“We must not take anything, take nothing for granted,” repeated the 65-year-old politician before boarding his campaign bus bearing the slogan “Let’s continue”. This will take him today to the Capitale-Nationale and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean regions. The CAQ wants in particular to grab hold of the riding of Jonquière, which is currently represented by the Parti Québécois.
Mr. Legault asked Lieutenant-Governor Michel Doyon on Sunday morning to dissolve the National Assembly – which he did. The chief caquiste said “wish[r] » the re-election of a majority government, ie 63 MNAs or more, on October 3rd. “A majority government is what I want,” he said in the shadow of the parliament building.
