the challenges of change for the Republic on the march before a “Renaissance”

Preparing for the future and post-Macron. While all the Nupes parties are meeting this weekend in the Drôme, near Valence, the presidential majority is, for its part, in a seminar in Metz.

>> Political return: follow our live

A large part of the government, starting with the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, but also Bruno Le Maire, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Clément Beaune, the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, her predecessor Richard Ferrand and former minister Christophe Castaner, as well as 300 executives from La République en Marche, the Agir and Territoire de Progrès parties meet for a “executive seminar” supposed to lay the foundations of the future presidential party, Renaissance.

Puzzle in sight: the Republic on the move was created to elect Emmanuel Macron in 2017. However, the president with two terms of office cannot stand for re-election at the Elysée. Thus, for five years, the majority will have to face hard-line opposition, in particular without an absolute majority in the National Assembly, even though within the majority of the chapels have finally emerged. The Prime Minister must speak at the end of this seminar bringing together LREM, Agir, the majority right-wing party chaired by Minister Franck Riester, and Territories of Progress, the left wing chaired by Minister Olivier Dussopt, which must disappear in favor of Renaissance, a name already adopted by the group in the National Assembly.

The challenges are not lacking: the party must therefore build up ideological muscle, but also better establish itself, he who has lost contact with a good part of his original militants, privately recognizes a Walker of the first hour.

And then, finally, reunite. Austere stage during this seminar: work on a charter of values, on new statutes. They will be validated by the members in mid-September, who will elect a new management. Proof that appetites are whetted: Bruno Le Maire wants the “ideas” pole, when Gérald Darmanin looks into the training of elected officials. Because, a pillar recognizes it: “Renaissance will have to designate a presidential candidate for 2027“.
