For people with disabilities, holidays also mean a need for additional adaptation, particularly to make the most of the beach and the various facilities on site.
“It’s the holidays, it makes you want to”rejoices Béatrice, accompanying her disabled daughter to the seaside. To access the beach, there is often no equipment provided for wheelchair access for people with reduced mobility, who have to turn around. In fact, in France, less than one beach in ten is labeled “Handiplage”.
“We can’t afford to pay that price for a week.”confides Jessica, mother of Valentin, 6 years old, disabled. The price, more than 1,400 euros, may seem prohibitive for this family and corresponds to a month’s salary. No vacation for them this year, the activities will be confined near their main residence. In fact, inclined planes, special beds or water launching devices are still too expensive to democratize their use. According to a survey, 37% of disabled people still cannot afford to go on vacation.
