The CFL takes over the ownership of the Alouettes

The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced Tuesday that it is taking over ownership of the Alouettes.

The circuit also announced that Mario Cecchini was named interim team president. In a press release, the CFL specifies that he “will manage the day-to-day operations of the affairs of the organization under the direction and supervision of the office of the League. »

“General Manager Danny Maciocia will continue to focus on the important work of building the team’s roster in preparation for the 2023 season,” added the CFL.

In addition, the League announces that it has initiated an accelerated and formal sale process, which is led by its partner Park Lane, a specialist investment bank in the sports world and a major consulting firm.

According to the CFL, several groups have already expressed their interest in buying the Alouettes, including groups whose members live or work in Montreal or in the province of Quebec.

“This step ends the team’s association with the estate of the late Sid Spiegel and with Gary Stern. The CFL would like to express its gratitude to them for their management of the Alouettes. Sid Spiegel and Gary Stern bought the team in 2020, at a pivotal moment in the club’s history. They have put together a strong management team, both on the business side and on the football operations side of the organisation. Following Sid’s passing in 2021, his estate and Gary continued their mission to provide a winning and entertaining football team. The organization is stronger because of these contributions, the proof being the current interest shown in the future of the Alouettes. »
